About the Organization
The Holdsworth Center is a non-profit organization founded and largely funded by Charles Butt, Chairman of H-E-B, a regional retail company.  Our mission is to impact, over time, the quality of K-12 public education for all Texas students by supporting and developing leaders.  Based in Austin, Texas, our campus and programs are being developed in honor of Charles’ mother, Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt, who was an educator, a philanthropist and a lifelong champion for social justice. In 2021, Holdsworth opened The Campus on Lake Austin, a 44-acre 186 sleeping room facility that hosts educators for Holdsworth’s programming.

We partner with public school districts over five years to help them grow outstanding leaders at all levels so that staff thrive, and students excel in every classroom.  At Holdsworth, we believe leadership isn’t just about titles. We make a deep investment in leaders at both the district and campus levels, including teachers who lead students in the classroom and influence and lead their colleagues.  

We are seeking a HR Generalist who shares a deep commitment to our mission and values—Believe in People, Be of Service, Drive for Excellence & Equity—and whose experience and vision will deepen our capacity and enhance our impact as we strive to serve public school districts across the state of Texas. Along with working in the capacity of the role, the incumbent may engage alongside Holdsworth staff in leadership development activities and training in support of our mission and values.  


About the Position

The HR Generalist, reporting to the Human Resources Director, will be instrumental in talent acquisition efforts along with daily HR operations for The Holdsworth Center. We are looking for a talented, motivated, and enthusiastic HR Generalist to bring a background in HR best practices and a passion for innovation.  They will need to be comfortable in fast-paced environments and thrive on collaboration, problem-solving and identifying opportunities to implement creative solutions.


The HR Generalist should be experienced in a number of functions supporting all aspects of employment lifecycle, from Recruiting and Talent Acquisition through to onboarding, performance management to end of employment activities.




  • Help Holdsworth recruit, attract, and hire exceptional people
    • Support hiring managers throughout the recruitment and selection process
    • Creatively recruit and source talent—using internal and external networks
    • Continuously build and maintain a talent pipeline to support organizational growth
  • Facilitate best in class staff onboarding and all new hire activities to ensure a seamless transition for new hires onto the team
  • Support core HR practices:
    • Assist HR Director with benefits related activities such as open enrollment and assisting staff with benefits related issues
    • Leverage internal HR systems for maintaining, auditing, and updating employee information
    • Provide consultation and interpretation on policies to staff and managers
    • Remain current with HR best practices and changes to federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Assist with the performance assessment and talent management process
  • Build positive relationships with managers and staff and serve as a resource and support re. HR questions and needs
  • Proactively track relevant data and information to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with other functions

Desirable candidates will have a range of prior experience and capabilities to include:


  • Experience in full cycle recruiting and performance management process highly desired
  • Ability to identify opportunities and develop thoughtful improvements
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills that lead to dynamic relationship building and collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time
  • Experience using a project management system such as Asana or others
  • Well-developed understanding of HR concepts and best practices and can apply them with minimal supervision while knowing when to escalate to the HR Director for additional guidance
  • Experience handling employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees and managers escalating complex matters to a supervisor or appropriate resource
  • Experience implementing an HR system or HR system transitions is a plus
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is a plus
  • Experience in a small HR team is a plus
  • Undergraduate degree highly preferred  
  • 3 - 5 years of HR experience highly desired
