District Support Project Manager

The Holdsworth Center is a non-profit organization founded and largely funded by Charles Butt, Chairman of H-E-B, a regional retail company. Our mission is to impact, over time, the quality of K-12 public education for all Texas students by supporting and developing leaders. Based in Austin, Texas, our campus and programs have been developed in honor of Charles’ mother, Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt, who was an educator, a philanthropist and a lifelong champion for social justice.


As part of our work, we partner with public school districts over five years through the Holdsworth Partnership to help them grow outstanding leaders at all levels so that staff thrive and students excel in every classroom. At Holdsworth, we believe leadership isn’t just about titles. We make a deep investment in leaders at both the district and campus levels, including teachers who lead students in the classroom and influence and lead their colleagues.


We are seeking a District Support Project Manager who shares a deep commitment to our mission and whose support of our work will deepen our capacity and enhance our impact as we strive to serve public school districts across the state of Texas. Along with working in the capacity of the role, the incumbent may engage alongside Holdsworth staff in leadership development activities and training in support of our mission and values.  


About the position

The District Support Project Manager is a newly created position on our District Support Team (DST). DST is comprised of full-time District Support Consultants who work day-to-day with our partner districts in their context to build excellent leadership development systems with the goal of ensuring every campus is served by a great principal and leadership team in order to achieve excellent and equitable outcomes for all students.


The DST Project Manager will work under the supervision and in direct support of the Managing Director of District Support to enable department operations, projects, events, and improvement efforts. In particular, this position will support the ongoing evolution of the District Support Team in becoming more nimble and effective, better matching consultant capacity/skill to district needs through project planning and client management. This will involve developing and managing systems for assessing, assigning, and tracking team capacity against the strategic priorities of our partner districts. In addition, this position will be tasked with creating and managing new systems to help identify, package, and utilize Holdsworth’s intellectual property surrounding the campus leadership pipeline. In sum, this position will support an overall effort to help streamline and improve the current functioning of the team of 17 highly skilled professionals that make up the Holdsworth Center’s consulting team by improving all types of teaming efforts (including on campus, in-district, and virtual meetings and events involving the largely remote staff). In addition, this improvement effort will involve direct support of the Managing Director in scheduling their district travel, streamlining our rigorous district systems assessment process, and supporting our ongoing hiring efforts to bring more A players onto our team as we grow and expand.

Leadership and Technical Skills

  • Development and management of reporting structures and reports for visibility and alignment across the team, including team capacity tracking
  • Internal relationship-building that supports team (and other departments) working together and making decisions
  • Effective meeting management (e.g., materials, presentation creation, agendas, event logistics, AV, notetaking)
  • Strong written communication skills that produce high quality work products (project plans, presentations, budgets, memos, etc.)
  • Budget planning and support including management of department expenses and accounting [This role is not responsible for tracking of consultant travel expenses.]
  • Ability to prioritize and manage the efficient calendaring of individual, Managing Director, and department schedules
  • Cross-departmental coordination with HR in the management of DST hiring and onboarding
  • Travel management for Managing Director including transportation, flights, meal reservations, etc. and occasional support to consultants related to their travel logistics.  [This role is not responsible for the day-to-day travel of department consultants.]
  • Aptitude for IT and understanding how information systems can and do support the work of DST and the organization (including knowledge management preferred)




  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • PMP Certification and/or minimum of 5-7 years in project management related roles


Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficiency in Asana and/or other project management systems and developing detailed project plans
  • Understanding of time tracking systems that manage individual and team workloads across projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Teams
  • Highly-skilled in PowerPoint visual presentations
  • Experience in managing virtual meeting platforms and hosting responsibilities
  • Familiar with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Experience in meeting and event planning
  • Experience in group travel arrangements
  • Experience in or working knowledge of education systems
  • Experience with knowledge management concepts, processes and systems

Additional Responsibilities and Expectations

This is a full-time role in a department that is working daily with partner school districts.  On occasion (2-3x/yr), travel may be required to support meetings and convenings with our partner districts.


The Holdsworth Center is based in Austin, Texas. In general, this position will work from home in Austin or the immediate surrounding area and will be required to commute to The Holdsworth Center headquarters as directed and required to fulfill job responsibilities (generally 1-2 days per week, occasionally 3+ days per week).
