About the Organization
The Holdsworth Center is a non-profit organization founded and largely funded by Charles Butt, Chairman of H-E-B, a regional retail company.  Our mission is to impact, over time, the quality of K-12 public education for all Texas students by supporting and developing leaders.  Based in Austin, Texas, our campus and programs are being developed in honor of Charles’ mother, Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth Butt, who was an educator, a philanthropist and a lifelong champion for social justice.

We partner with public school districts over five years to help them grow outstanding leaders at all levels so that staff thrive, and students excel in every classroom.  At Holdsworth, we believe leadership isn’t just about titles. We make a deep investment in leaders at both the district and campus levels, including teachers who lead students in the classroom and influence and lead their colleagues.  

Along with working in the capacity of the role, the incumbent will engage alongside Holdsworth staff in leadership development activities and training including but not limited to equity work.

Along with working in the capacity of the role, the incumbent may engage alongside Holdsworth staff in leadership development activities and training in support of our mission and values.  

 

 

About the Position

The Manager, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, will assist with managing finance and the operations of The Campus on Lake Austin, a 44-acre 186 sleeping room facility that hosts educators for Holdsworth’s programming. Finance operations include treasury, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal and external financial reporting. Campus includes the day-to-day oversight of hospitality and security third party vendors who directly manage these areas.


In alignment with strengths and skills, the Manager will:

 

  • Assist with managing finance and campus operation functions for growing non- profit
  • Develop relationships throughout the organization and maintain an excellent understanding of program offerings, particularly in terms of how they impact finance and campus operations
  • Develop and/or maintain finance and campus operations policies and procedures
  • Prepare and maintain standardized templates for reviewing monthly, quarterly and YTD actuals and their variance to planned operational and capital expenditure budgets, forecast and prior year
  • Improve, deliver, and maintain standardized planning templates for building financial forecasts, annual operating budgets, and long-range plans
  • Lead budget policy, development, and monitoring activities
  • Assist CFO with long term financial planning and analysis
  • Assist with oversight of hospitality vendor and operations, including review and analysis of monthly financial results
  • Oversee campus emergency operations 
  • Lead new accounting system implementation
  • Oversee audit preparation and tax filings
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls for financial reporting and campus operations risk
  • Review of journal entries
  • Review account and subledger reconciliations
  • Draft professional presentation materials

 

Desirable candidates will have a range of prior experience and capabilities to include:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration 
  • 8 years of relevant experience required
  • Ability to identify opportunities and develop thoughtful improvements
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent project management, analytical, problem solving, and financial reporting skills
  • Experience managing finance operations, including general accounting, payroll, accounts payable and procurement card/travel and expense is required
  • Knowledge of GAAP and all other regulatory rules, regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge or ability to effectively research and interpret relevant tax standards including non-profit, employment, vendor, and independent contractor vs. employee relationships
  • Experience leading external audit and 990 tax return preparation is a plus
  • Experience in emergency operations planning is a plus
  • Experience implementing a finance system is a plus
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is a plus
  • Experience in hospitality is a plus
